PART 4-Five minutes after my boss fired me, he stopped me at the door and told me to repair the machine

PART 4 — THE TRAITOR WAS STILL INSIDE HORIZON
No one in the room spoke after I read Victor’s final message.
THE PERSON WHO BOUGHT YOUR DESIGN IS ALREADY INSIDE HORIZON.
The words seemed to change the temperature around us.
Five minutes earlier, everyone in Bay Three had been looking outward.
Toward Victor.
Toward the airport.
Toward the private aircraft in the photograph.
Toward stolen money disappearing through shell companies and foreign accounts.
Now every pair of eyes slowly began moving around the room.
Daniel.
Claire.
Richard.
Walter.
Mason.
Security.

Meridian’s representatives.
Even me.
Because that was what Victor had always been good at.
He didn’t need to prove anything.
He only needed to make people suspicious of one another.
Daniel finally spoke.
“Nobody reacts to that message.”
Richard laughed bitterly.
“A little late for that.”
Daniel turned sharply.
“He wants exactly what’s happening right now.”
Richard folded his arms.
“You don’t know that.”
“I know enough.”

Laura Chen stepped toward my laptop.
“What exactly did he say?”
I turned the phone toward her.
She read the message twice.
Then looked at me.
“Buyer.”
“Yes.”
“Not accomplice.”
I frowned.
“What difference does that make?”
“A lot.”
She pointed to the screen.
“He didn’t say someone inside Horizon helped him.”
“He said the person who bought my design is already inside Horizon.”
“Exactly.”
Daniel understood before I did.
“You think he means the buyer is physically here.”
Laura nodded.
The room became silent again.
